How to find and delete old files

I ran across this great tool for locating files for deletion on your hard drive. We have all been in that situation where you need to delete something. You can’t even defragment anymore because you don’t have 15% free! Here’s the key…

What’s cool about this site is that it gives you a nice picture that SHOWS you how big the files are… so you can get a visual on what needs to be deleted. AWESOME! I highly recommend. And, it is free.

How the face of video content will change in years to come

Some believe that Google is really close toward possessing the technology that would allow them to transcribe videos and index the content on a highly scalable level. Right now, they are doing this with 2008 election coverage. Check this out. This is VERY exciting:

WebmasterWorld administrator, Tedster, started a thread at WebmasterWorld suggesting that Google may begin indexing audio files in the near future. Tedster linked to the recent news on Google announcing that they are “automatically” transcribing YouTube videos “from speech to text” and then indexing that content in a searchable format.

Personally, I think if they got that technology down, it would simply rock. But it would make much of the audio files, MP3s, videos and multimedia content all searchable.

Many operating systems have speech to text technology. They make software that tries to transcribe your voice as you speak to it. They make technology, OCR, that reads text as an image and translates it to machine readable text. None of this technology is perfect, or even close to it. Google has dabbled in all of this in the past and I am sure they continue to experiment with this now and in the future.

So keep watching the accuracy of search results such as filetype:mp3.

Not sure when this will happen. But, it WILL happen. Right now, it is too easy to game the video rankings. So, it is clear that Google would like to develop a system like this that actually provides legitimate rankings for video. So, take my advice … invest in video content.

New Facebook launches today

It is clear that the new Facebook will be somewhat different from your current version. To see what the new one will look like, you can login to www.new.facebook.com. These are the main differences (ala Tech Crunch):

The biggest visual change people will see on the home page - the combination of status updates, wall posts and news feed items into a single content stream. On the profile page status updates and other mini-feed items are also combined, and users are shown a big text box at the top encouraging them to update their status. For more details on the updates, see Inside Facebook

Tech Crunch goes on to mention that many of these changes are very much like what you see at FriendFeed.

Right now, a few of these sites appear to be serving the same purpose. I repeatedly find myself updating my Twitter feed, and then going over to update my status on Facebook.
